License

UQFF Star-Magic is offered under a DUAL LICENSE model. You must choose one option before using, copying, modifying, or redistributing the software.

Option A — AGPL-3.0

Free for academic, research, personal, and non-commercial use, with share-alike obligations including the SaaS / network-use clause.

Universities, national laboratories, individual researchers, and non-profit institutions are explicitly invited to use this option for replication, peer review, teaching, and follow-on research.

Option B — Commercial License

Required for:

  • Building proprietary commercial products that link/embed UQFF without releasing the derivative source code.

  • Operating commercial SaaS deployments that expose UQFF predictions to paying users without releasing the server source.

  • Distributing UQFF bundled with proprietary hardware (including LENR reactors, power-generation equipment, sensor arrays, or any device incorporating Star-Magic principles).

  • Commercial spin-offs arising from publicly-grant-funded research.

  • Importing UQFF into MIT/Apache/BSD-licensed projects.

License migration note

The repository was previously distributed under the MIT License (archived as LICENSE-MIT-PREVIOUS.txt). As of 2026-06-18, licensing changed to the dual model above. The MIT License continues to govern revisions made strictly before the 2026-06-18 commit. All current and future revisions are governed by the dual license.

Trademarks

“UQFF”, “Star-Magic”, “Di-Pseudo-Monopole”, and “DPM” as applied to the framework described in this software are unregistered trademarks of Daniel T. Murphy / Star-Magic Research Program. Neither license option grants trademark rights.

Patents

Certain applications of UQFF (notably the Star-Magic LENR reactor architecture, COP 555:1 at 27 W, ambient T, pH -37) may be subject to pending or issued patents. The software licenses do NOT grant hardware patent rights. Hardware implementations require a separate patent license.

Citation

Whether you use UQFF under AGPL-3.0 or under a commercial license, any academic publication, technical report, patent application, or public presentation that uses results produced by this software MUST cite UQFF per the CITATION.cff file in the repository.
